Blizzard Reimagines Classic Azeroth for a New Era

Blizzard has unveiled World of Warcraft: Forever, a new permanent World of Warcraft experience built around a reimagined version of the original Azeroth.

Rather than another temporary season or a straightforward recreation of Classic WoW, Forever is designed as an evolving game alongside Modern and Classic WoW. Players return to the original Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, level from 1–60, and discover new regions, quests, dungeons, raids and progression systems built into the familiar world.

Blizzard describes Forever as a permanent home for players who want the world-focused experience of early World of Warcraft while still getting new content over time.

The game introduces previously unexplored areas of the original continents alongside systems such as Legacy progression for leveling and alternate characters and Camping, which allows players to establish campfires in the open world where other adventurers can gather and contribute.

Players will also be able to choose between modern and Classic-inspired presentation options. Blizzard has confirmed optional Transmog, HD and SD character models, restored Classic animations for HD models, and official gamepad support. Environmental rendering is also being upgraded while retaining the visual identity of original Azeroth.

When Does WoW: Forever Launch?

The World of Warcraft: Forever beta begins September 17, 2026, and is scheduled to run through October 21. The full game launches globally on November 4, 2026 and will be included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time.

New raids are scheduled to begin arriving on December 9, with Blizzard planning additional raids, dungeons, PvP content, quests, Hardcore and other major updates afterward.

For players interested in trying it early, beta access is included with Blizzard's Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection.

A Different Future for World of Warcraft

Forever is an interesting direction because Blizzard isn't simply preserving the original game. It's returning to the foundations of early World of Warcraft and using them as the starting point for a new, continuously expanding version of Azeroth.

For longtime players, that means familiar locations without necessarily knowing what's waiting around every corner. For newcomers, it creates another entry point into Warcraft without requiring decades of experience with the modern game.

World of Warcraft: Forever launches November 4, 2026.
